Jason Silva & The Lightbulb

Updated: Sep 15, 2018

If you don't know Jason is known for hosting the huge show Brain Games on National Geographic TV and he's pretty big online now with his own Vlog - check him out if you haven't. So why him...

Jason comes to Kelowna

In 2017 Jason came to the city I find myself calling home most of the time here in the Okanagan Valley of British Columbia. We actually bumped into each other in the Men's room and had a good but short conversation, he's a pretty cool down to earth guy as I expected. As usual on stage Jason spoke about the things that he is passionate about and interested in. He talked about his fascination with our species and how rapidly we have and are advancing especially in areas of Neuro-Science and things like Artificial Intelligence, etc. He also spoke a lot about Flow and the pursuit of "Awe" experiences. All this was interesting but not the light bulb for me. What happened at the end was people had a chance for Q&A and that's when I really perked up...

I found myself listening to every 2nd person basically asking his thoughts on Love & Relationships. Jason seemed surprised because although it affects us all, that was not his topic of discussion nor really is it his area of focus. I was happy to hear him refer to Esther Perel who is someone I have a high regard for in this field though. Anyway, to the point...

The light bulb went on because it dawned on me, here we are considering how advanced we've become with technology and science. But most people are still struggling with or looking for support when it comes to Relationships because no matter how advanced we've become, Relationships are still real and involve work that is often not easy or simple. If anything our advances in technology have possibly made Relationships harder!

Even though we have the ability to stay in touch faster than ever - many people feel we are more disconnected than ever...I saw a bumper sticker or Instagram quote recently that said something like "want a good relationship - put the phone down!" I would agree but its becoming harder for us to have real interactions even without devices. Raise your hand if you've been in a situation that with devices off or away, it was awkward??

Anyway, thanks to the realization I had that day I decided to start writing my book. There is not a very big community of people contributing to this topic in the world. So I decided to offer what I can while honouring some of the voices that have influenced me too. So until the book is ready and probably after it launches, this blog will be the place for my thoughts on the subject.

Would love to read your comments or hear from you. Feel free to suggest topics you think would be great for me to write about or are close to your heart.

Thank you for subscribing, please tell your friends.

Sincerely,

KK.
